movies:
- bill & ted's bogus journey (1991) bill & ted's excellent adventure was my absolute favourite movie as a kid. i'd well worn out my VHS copy of it by the time this sequel came out & my dad took my brother & i out to see it on opening day. well, it seems 8 year old me was a sensitive soul. a few minutes in, my dad had to take my crying, terrified self out of the cinema. the grim reaper & the overall darker tone of the movie scared the crap out of me. i was so traumatised, i was well into my teens before i attempted to watch it again. even now, i get little shivery flashbacks to my freak out while watching it!
- sliders (1995-2000) season two, eps 1-6. hooray, another will sasso bit.
i've always been fascinated by what happens to actors whose weight has played a big part in their careers when they lose weight. ron lester was a popular casting choice for 'the fat guy' in various late 90s movies and tv shows (freaks and geeks, popular, varsity blues) & found the roles totally dried up post-gastric bypass. a quick google search shows he's turned to motivational speaking and, uh, selling g-strings to get by these days.
- frasier (1993-2004) season one, eps 4-5. david angell, frasier co-creator & executive producer, died onboard the first plane to hit the world trade center in the 9/11 attacks.
- seinfeld (1989-1998) season one, eps 3-5 + season two, eps 1-2. i always assumed these season two eps were from later seasons, as they're so strong.
- clocked that stinkin' world 3 on super mario bros 3 on snes. STUPID UNDERWATER LEVELS!
- tea & vegemite toast.
- samboy chips. i am scared that these are starting to disappear again after their recent comeback. proving harder and harder to find :( on a brighter note, who remembers the bitchin' ads we had for them back in the day?
- kiwi strawberry snapple.
- mcdonalds cookies (the staff didn't even know what we were asking for at first!) & coffee.
- kyle cocktail invention.
- nippy's iced chocolate. i must go give blood again so i can enjoy these on the house.
- gado gado salad from my vegetarian chinese cooking book (1995).
- doritos.
no, the above is not someone fangirling over the national broadband network. this is 12 year old me on my way to a coolio/naughty by nature/house of pain concert in 1996. i had recently spent about 10 hours having my hair braided by two african sisters in a house in reservoir & thought i would add to my overwhelming coolness by drawing on my face with eyeliner (btw, totally wasn't there to see that loser coolio, i was all about house of pain and naughty by nature). and now i invite you, dear friends, to point and laugh.
p.s. the braids lasted about a month before i got frustrated at the scrungy roots & cut the lot off.
